The mission of the Alberta Reappraising AIDS Society is to promote critical discussion of the HIV=AIDS=Death dogma by making basic science available and by publishing the writings of other critics of the theory for a wide audience. The society is always interested in hearing from people who would like to help through volunteering their time, offering their writing or research skills or who wish to donate money to support and expand the work of the society.

  • September 9thHuman Endogenous Retroviruses and AIDS Research: Confusion, Consensus, or Science?
JPANDS: “Human Endogenous Retroviruses (HERVs) are confounding factors in HIV/AIDS research that cannot be ignored. Evidence suggests that ‘viral load’ may actually be measuring retroviral nucleoside sequences associated with HERVs. HERVs also provide a valid explanation for the presence of retroviruses recognizable by electron microscopy (EM) in the original 1983 publication from the Institut Pasteur, and may account for claims of innumerable ‘mutations’ of the putative HIV pathogen. The interference of HERVs in AIDS research brings into question the subject of study in so-called ‘AIDS Research,’ and the very existence of an exogenous HIV pathogen itself.”

In a follow-up post, he asked, “Why are people scared of the HIV virus, don’t you wear condoms to protect yourself from HSV?” He added, “The research I have done raises several questions on weather or not HIV is even related to AIDs.”…[documents seized included] two manila envelopes containing a total of 146 pages of “HIV related research articles.”

  • September 9thNevirapine Reaction – Caution: Graphic Medical Photographs Ahead
Cameroon Med: “a young lady came in with the complaint of a 6-day history of painful rash over a majority of her body. She also complained of swollen and painful lips. She was put on TMP-SMX 3 months ago and began antiretroviral therapy about a week ago. The rash on the abdomen, arms, and legs looked almost on molluscum contagiosum. On the palms of her hands and the soles of her feet were purpuric lesions. Her lips were indeed swollen and there were weeping lesions present. I had no idea what was going on so I consulted Dr. Francine – one of the more senior clinicians that was present in the clinic. She had seen one case like this before and the final diagnosis was a reaction to Nevirapine (a component of her 3 drug regimen for HIV). We told her to immediately stop the Nevirapine and return to her treating physician for a different regimen of ART therapy…”

  • September 9thAIDS skeptics take on conventional wisdom

RT: July 23 marks the final day of an international AIDS conference where scientists from around the world have worked to fight and cure the disease. He said a study of 175 couples, one partner with HIV and one without, engaged in a sexual relationship for six years and in the end the partner who began without aids still did not have aids. “Zero is a pretty low number to indicate a sexual component to this,” said Scheff…

  • September 9stVaccine-Induced HIV Seropositivity/Reactivity in Noninfected HIV Vaccine Recipients
JAMA: [So far HIV vaccines haven’t prevented ‘HIV infections’ in any statistically significant number of recipients but apparently they can cause you to test HIV-positive] “Among 2,176 participants free of HIV infection [HIV-negative] who received a vaccine product, 908 (41.7%) had VISP [vaccine-induced HIV seropositivity], but the occurrence of VISP varied substantially across different HIV vaccine product types: 399 of 460 (86.7%) adenovirus 5 product recipients, 295 of 552 (53.4%) recipients of poxvirus alone or as a boost, and 35 of 555 (6.3%) of DNA-alone product recipients developed VISP. Overall, the highest proportion of VISP (891/2176 tested [40.9%]) occurred with the HIV 1/2 (rDNA) EIA kit compared with the rLAV EIA (150/700 tested [21.4%]), HIV-1 Plus O Microelisa System (193/1309 tested [14.7%]), and HIV 1/2 Peptide and HIV 1/2 Plus O (189/2150 tested [8.8%]) kits. Only 17 of the 908 participants (1.9%) with VISP tested nonreactive using the HIV 1/2 (rDNA) kit. All recipients of a glycoprotein 140 vaccine (n = 70) had VISP, with 94.3% testing reactive with all 3 EIA kits tested. Among 901 participants with VISP and a Western blot result, 92 (10.2%) had a positive Western blot result (displaying an atypical pattern consistent with vaccine product), and 592 (65.7%) had an indeterminate result.”

  • September 9thNew insights into the role of HIV in the aetiology and pathogenesis of AIDS
University of Florence: [Presented July 14, 2010 at the University of Florence for a thesis defence] “In the first part of this thesis I analyze current hypotheses on AIDS aetiology and pathogenesis using the deconstructive analytical approach proposed by Jacques Derrida, i.e. I conducted thorough, careful, sensitive, and yet transformational readings of scientific texts on HIV and AIDS, to determine what aspects of those texts run counter to their apparent systematicity (structural unity) or intended sense (authorial genesis). In the second part of this thesis, I describe the experiments that I performed in order to demonstrate that some of the changes induced by HIV at the cellular and molecular level are identical to those induced by cadmium, a known environmental carcinogen and I elaborate on the relationship between HIV and human breast cancer. Finally, I describe some effects on angiogenesis [blood vessel development] attributed to HIV that could be due to endogenous factors. As far as the relationship between HIV and AIDS is concerned, I elaborate on the words of Professor Luc Montagnier, who, after having been awarded the Nobel Prize, stated: “We can be exposed to HIV many times without being chronically infected. Our immune system will get rid of the virus within a few weeks, if you have a good immune system”…thus reversing the long-assumed cause-and-effect relationship between HIV and AIDS whereby HIV inevitably brings on AIDS…” [Thesis Advisor: Prof. Marco Ruggiero. Reviewers: Dr. Vincenzo Crupi and Prof. Henry Bauer]

  • September 9thCD4 cell-guided scheduled treatment interruptions in HIV-infected patients with sustained immunologic response to HAART
AIDS: Funnily enough this study didn’t get much press when published over a year ago. It shows that patients who take all their AIDS drugs had a significantly higher cardiovascular disease risk than patients on “Structured Treatment Interruption” (they were off drugs 65% of the time). The authors make a big deal of the fact that, “A higher proportion of patients in the STI arm were diagnosed with pneumonia”, but very subtly don’t mention that this was not statistically significant. liamscheff.com: ‘AIDS is about, well, if I said 10,000 diseases, I’d be in the ballpark. It is a disease category as long as Pinocchio’s nose, and as deep as a the Grand Canyon. It grows at will, and can never be filled up – it grows and goes. Any disease can be called “AIDS” if it occurs in people who the medical cops think are “at risk for AIDS.” ‘

An article by Kalichman – “Are You Positive? Rogues, pseudoscientists, snake oil peddlers” – appears in the November/December 2009 issue of the British publication New Humanist”. • September 9stMeasles mimicking HIV seroconversion syndrome
J Med Case Reports: This paper is a perfect illustration that modern medicine is more concerned with lab tests than health. Here is a case where the symptoms were “AIDS” (despite how troublesome that definition is) but the diagnosis was Measles because that’s what a PCR test indicated. The trouble for AIDS doctors is, of course, that if they used clinical symptoms alone there is nothing to distinguish AIDS from conditions that have always existed.

Science: Professor Peter Duesberg is being attacked again. The withdrawal of his paper from Medical Hypotheses, on the basis of an investigation that has not happened, and probably never will, is now being used as justification for firing him from UC Berkeley. Most bizarrely he is being accused of a conflict of interest because David Rasnick, a co-author on the paper, once worked for vitamin entrepreneur Matthias Rath…a relationship that terminated well before the paper was written. Shocking real conflicts of interest are declared (or often not) every day in major scientific journals.

The idea is that everyone in defined risk groups should be tested for HIV. In Washington DC this means all black people as well as gay men. In San Francisco mainly gay men. In Vancouver, Canada, mainly IV drug users. Once the target is identified all who test positive will be given AIDS drugs right away – not to try to prevent disease, but to prevent transmission.
  • September 9thOn the risk of contracting AIDS at the dissection table
Ital J Anat Embryol: Didactic dissection of the human body is still considered the best tool to teach and learn anatomy. Although the risk of being infected with pathogens during dissection has dramatically decreased, fear of infection is still widespread among medical students and health care professionals. The fear of contracting AIDS at the dissection table is of particular relevance because of the emotional implications accompanying the syndrome. In this study we analyze the actual risks of contracting AIDS during dissection in Italy by evaluating health policies and proportions of the epidemic. According to the Italian Ministry of Health, HIV infection and AIDS are not to be considered relevant threats to public health from the epidemiological point of view, and it is estimated that 99.7% of health care workers, who are exposed to HIV, will not be infected. In fact, there is only one well-documented case of an autopsy acquired HIV infection that happened in 1992 the United States. Furthermore, HIV infection is not necessarily associated with AIDS, and most HIV-positive subjects do not develop AIDS, provided that they do not assume toxic drugs or engage in risky behaviours. Conversely, according to the Ministry, AIDS can occur in the absence of signs of HIV infection. Taken together these considerations should help rationalizing the fear of contracting AIDS at the dissection table. The dissection hall can still be a dangerous place and the adoption of safe working practices and awareness of potential risks are mandatory; HIV serophobia, however, is unjustified.
